# Consent

> How many guests you can reach, what exactly you asked them, and the records behind it.

**Consent** answers two questions in order: **how many of my guests can I reach**, and **what exactly am I asking them?**

It matters beyond this screen. Every audience count, every send, and the real size of every broadcast is made of what is recorded here.

***

## What is on the screen

### The answer, first

How many guests have agreed, **against how many you could even ask**:

* **Can receive e-mail** — of the guests you hold an e-mail address for
* **Can receive messages** — of the guests you hold a phone number for

<Note>
  **The denominator is the point.** "40 guests" is a number. "40 of the 120 we have an e-mail address for" is something you can act on.

  The two do not add up: e-mail and messages are agreed to separately, against different contact details. And where a figure cannot be produced the screen says **it could not look** — which is not the same as *you have none*.
</Note>

### The ask

What a guest actually sees when they are asked, in whichever language you pick. Your hotel can use the standard wording or write **your own wording**, with an **offer line** if you are giving a reason to say yes. A preview shows the guest's view.

Each version is **on record** — editing the wording creates a new version, and the old ones stay readable, so a guest who agreed last month is still matched to the words they were shown.

### The records

**Two files**, for a date range you set:

* an **audit ledger** of the consent decisions on record — including which **version of the wording** each was given against, so a decision can be matched to the words that were shown
* an **İYS upload file**, for hotels that must file their consent records with the Turkish registry

## What you do here

<Steps>
  <Step title="Read the two figures before you plan a campaign">
    They tell you how much of your guest list a marketing message can reach. An [audience](/front-desk/marketing/audiences) can match more people than this — matching is not the same as being reachable, and the audience screen shows both numbers for that reason.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Read your own wording as a guest">
    Use the preview and the language selector. What you are asking is a promise about what you will send.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Edit the wording deliberately">
    An edit is a new version. Old agreements keep the words they were given, which is exactly what makes the record worth anything.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Download the records when you are asked to show your working">
    Set the dates and take the file you need. The ledger is the record of what was decided and against which version of your wording; the İYS file is the one for filing.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Warning>
  **A guest who asks to stop is not sent marketing messages on that channel again.** The decision is per channel — stopping e-mail is not stopping messages — and it outranks any audience you build. It is not something to work around on another screen.
</Warning>

## What happens next

Nothing on this screen sends anything. It sets the boundary marketing sends work inside: [Audiences](/front-desk/marketing/audiences) show reachability against it, and [Broadcasts](/front-desk/marketing/broadcasts) skip anyone a marketing message may not reach. A service message to a guest currently staying with you is judged differently — a request to stop still applies.
