# Channels

> The named places your guests arrive from, so a booking can say where it came from.

**Channels** answers *where your guests come from*. Once a channel exists, bookings can be attributed to it — so you can tell which of your efforts produced one.

Two kinds sit in the list. **System channels** come with RecepAI and are not yours to edit. **Your own channels** are the ones you add: Instagram, a newsletter, a partner.

## What is on the screen

A list of your channels with their status, a filter, and a form to add or edit one.

## What you do here

<Steps>
  <Step title="Add a channel for each place you actually publish">
    One per real source. A channel nobody arrives through is a row you will be reading past for months.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Name it the way you talk about it">
    "Instagram" and "Autumn newsletter" are names your team will recognise on a booking six weeks from now.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Archive one you have finished with">
    **Archive** takes a channel out of use. Bookings already attributed to it keep their history and still count on [Performance](/front-desk/guerrilla/performance), but the channel can no longer be picked for a new campaign.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Warning>
  **Archiving is permanent.** There is no restore on this screen — an archived channel stays archived. If you may use the source again, leave it alone; an unused channel costs you a row, and archiving the wrong one costs you the name.

## What happens next

A channel becomes selectable when you build a [campaign](/front-desk/guerrilla/campaigns), and it is recorded on every booking that arrives through it — visible in the drawer on [Reservations](/front-desk/guerrilla/reservations), and counted on [Performance](/front-desk/guerrilla/performance).

Strategies can also be written to apply to a particular channel, which is how an offer reaches one audience and not another.
